Personal and contact details

It is important to keep your personal and contact details up to date. If your name or contact information have changed after you finished your prior studies, or if they change during your studies, notify the Open University: avoin-student@helsinki.fi.

Student number

You can check your student number on WebOodi under your personal data: 

  1. Log into WebOodi with your University of Helsinki username and password.  
  2. From the drop-down menu under your name, select: Personal data  

Registrations

Information on your registrations is available on WebOodi:  

  1. Log into WebOodi with your University of Helsinki username and password. 
  2. Select: My Studies > Registrations. 

Right to study

The right to study means the right to complete a particular course. At the Open University, you are granted the right to study for the duration of the courses for which you have registered.  

Information on your right to study can be seen on WebOodi under your personal data: 

  1. Log into WebOodi with your University of Helsinki username and password.  
  2. From the drop-down menu under your name, select: Personal data  

University of Helsinki user account

As a student of the Open University, you will be granted a username and password for the University of Helsinki’s IT systems for the duration of your studies. You will need this user account to log into the online learning environment Moodle, for example.  

You must activate your user account well before you begin your studies. You can browse the information associated with your user account (such as its expiration date) on the User information page (fi).

The helsinki.fi email and other digital services

Your University of Helsinki user account gives you access to services such as the helsinki.fi email and Microsoft’s Office 365 services.  

You can access your email by logging in at the University of Helsinki Office365 login page with your University of Helsinki username and password. Please note that all messages relating to your studies will be sent to your helsinki.fi address as a default.

Online learning environment Moodle

Nearly all Open University courses use the online learning environment Moodle.

Log into the course page with your University of Helsinki user account to receive the link to your course on Moodle as well as the course key you will need when you log in for the first time.

Special arrangements

As a student at the Open University, you can request special support for study-related situations and arrangements. For example, you may be granted additional time in an examination or have an assistant accompany you.  

To request special arrangements, you must submit a certificate from a doctor or equivalent specialist (e.g., psychologist, speech therapist or physical therapist) describing the need and grounds for the special arrangements.

Completed studies

The studies you complete are entered into the University of Helsinki’s student records. You will receive an email notification once your studies have been recorded. You can browse your completed studies through the My Studyinfo service.
