By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

If you do not register for attendance or non-attendance during the registration period, your study right will become passive. The process for reactivating your study right depends on the study right and the timing of your application for reinstatement. Please notice that lacking annual registration consumes study time.

If you wish to reactivate a passive study right and do the annual registration during the same academic year you forgot the registration by 31 July

Pay 

Do the annual registration

  •  Send a message to Kaisa House Student Advice at studentinfo@helsinki.fi.
  • Tell in the message which study right you are registering for.
  • Tell in the message if you are registering for attendance or non-attendance.
  • If you as a Bachelors' or Master's student register as attending, attach the receipt of the Student Union fee.
  • Please remember to mention your student number or date of birth in your message.

If you reactivate several study rights you have forgotten to register for, pay the re-enrolment fee for each of the study rights.

The Student Union fee needs to be paid only once per academic year.

When registering during the spring term, pay the Student Union fee covering only the spring term.

It is not possible to register for ended terms.

How to pay the re-enrolment fee

The re-enrolment fee is EUR 50 per study right you are applying for reinstatement for. The fee should be paid in the University of Helsinki online payment service:

If you are not able to use the online payment service, you can pay the fee to the University of Helsinki bank account FI58 5000 0120 3778 32, SWIFT (BIC): OKOYFIHH, Reference 99113034, Bank address: OP pankki, Gebhardinaukio 1, FI-00510 Helsinki, Finland and submit the receipt with the reinstatement application.

Re-enrolment fee needs to be paid

The re-enrolment fee applies to you if you are a degree student and you have missed the annual registration.

You need to pay the re-enrolment fee if you are

  • degree student in a Bachelor's or Master's programme, in the Degree Programme in Medicine or in the Degree Programme in Dentistry
  • doctoral researcher
  • student in the Specialist's Degree Programme in Veterinary Medicine and the studies have started before 1.8.2023
Re-enrolment fee need not to be paid

You don't need to pay the re-enrolment fee if you are not studying in a program leading to a degree, even if you have missed the annual registration.

Examples of this kind of studies are

  • specialist studies in Medicine and Dentistry. Note that since 1 April 2023 there is no longer a separate annual registration in these programs.
  • specialist studies in Veterinary Medicine which do not lead to a degree (study right started 31 August 2023 or later). Annual registration is still mandatory.
  • specific training in General Medical Practice. Note that since 1 April 2025 there is no annual registration for these studies.
  • specific training for specialists in Medicine. Note that since 1 April 2025 there is no annual registration for these studies.
  • non-degree teacher education studies. Note that since 1 April 2025 there is no annual registration for these studies.

If you are a degree student and are registering for the first time to an extended study right, you do not have to pay the re-enrolment fee, even if you would register outside the registration period.
