How are studies completed?
At the University of Helsinki, students plan their studies independently. There are many ways to complete studies and the most common modes of completion are described here.
How do I register for my courses and exams?
In addition to registering as for the academic year, you will have to register separately for all courses which you intend to complete.
Where can I find textbooks?
The Helsinki University Main Library is located in Kaisa House on the City Centre Campus. Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki also have their own campus libraries.
General Examinations
In a General Examination/Faculty Exam you can for instance retake course exams or do literature examinations that are not related to teaching. Some examination are completed as a paper examination in a lecture room. Some examinations are completed digitally in examination rooms using your own device. These examinations are taken in Moodle or another learning environment either as openly accessible examinations or using the Safe Exam Browser (SEB).

Moodle exams are taken under supervision in the exam hall on your own device or as remote exams at a location of your choice. Instructions for both exams below.

Raising grades and resitting examinations
You can retake an approved examination or course no more than two times.
Study modules and their compilation
The compilation of a study module means that the individual courses you have completed are incorporated into a larger module, such as basic, intermediate or advanced studies.

You need an electronically verified or printed transcript of studies if you are asked to provide official proof of the studies you have completed at the University of Helsinki. You can order an electronically verified transcript of studies in Sisu.
Expiry of Studies
The university has set timelines within which your completed studies are valid for degrees or study modules.
